Well im a newbie and so far i have installed linux, added the pcmcia-cs package from sourceforge and got my wireless card showing up in Mandrake. Now I cant get it to connect to the router.
when I was setting up the drivers i had them autodetect so im not sure if this could be a wrong driver or something. the orinoco driver is loaded, but im not sure if I need to get a specific one online to add to the kernel or whatever.
ANyway, i manually set up all the lan configurations and turned off my encription and mac filtering on the router to see if that is the problem but still nothing.
Please any help would be much appreciated and keep in mind I am new to linux and am still learning the vocabulary and commands.

im a newbie too but i just learned how to configure my wifi adapter (its prism tho) on Mandrake.
did u check if it is actually detected in hardDrake? for me my USB wlan adapter doesnt show. its just called "USB".
since youre using pcmcia im guessing that it should appear in the pcmcia devices. im pretty sure that mdk comes with an orinoco driver to start with.

another thing you could try doing, in the case that the card is actually detected by harddrake, did u try the networking wizard that comes with mandrake? im not able to use it (again cuz of the undetected adapter), so im not sure if itll work properly for you or not.

as for the driver, try to look for one that mentions you card, particularly the chipset and your actual card's model (this may be very important, since there are rare cases where 2 wifi adapters have different chipsets, like the Dell Truemobile 1180 USB adapter, which has one version that comes with a prism driver and a version with another one [cant remember name] )
