Dell Inspiron 8600 wifi not working with Ubuntu 10.10

The laptop has a Broadcom 1450 wireless mini PCI card. Wifi works fine under Windows, but I can't get a connection under Ubuntu. Ideally, I will be able to get this to work with Ubuntu, but if that's not possible I can try other distributions. It's my mother's laptop though, so I wouldn't want it to be too complicated.

Has anyone been able to get this to work with Ubuntu or any other Linux distribution?

Thanks.

In the Synaptic Package Manager, go to -->Settings-->Repositories-->Ubuntu Software, and enable the "Proprietary drivers . . ." checkbox.

Ubuntu has Broadcom drivers there.

Thanks, Frank. I'll give it a shot when I get a chance.
