debian: wireless card not detected correctly after kernel upgrade to 2.6
I had a wireless card working fine before upgrading to a 2.6 kernel under debian. Now, ifconfig shows eth1 (the wireless card) but with a HWaddr of 00-00-00... which is obviously wrong. The IP displayed is correct (specified in /etc/network/interfaces). There's also a regular network card, which is correctly detected.
I am not sure exactly what type of card it is; how can I further diagnose this problem? Thanks! |
ifconfig -a output
on further perusal:
ifconfig -a says that there are two more devices: eth2 and wifi0 which have reasonable HWaddr parameters. does 2.6 change the name of the devices? what files do i need to update to take the changes into account? |
Maybe take a look at /etc/network/interfaces and see what is there regarding the wireless interfaces. It could be that upgrade changed/overwrote the default configuration.
If the router has WEP, you may need to add the appropriate WEP key to the configuration file. |
If you don't absolutely need 2.6 boot your old kernel.
