Dear friends,

I am back with yet another plea for more help. Here is what I did step by step.

First, to make sure that everybody was on the same subnet as my wifi router (192.168.1.1) I gave my computer the IP 192.1681.3, then I connected to the ZyXEL using it's default IP (192.168.10.1) and gave it the IP 192.168.1.2, then I connected to the new IP. No problems at all.

Ok, then I followed the exact sequence given in the link recommended by 2Gnu.

First, I did "On the operation mode setup screen set bridge and save". No problems.

Second, I did "On the wireless basic settings screen select client mode, enter the SSID of your network and save". No problems.

Third, I did "On the wireless security screen select your encryption type, enter the key/passphrase, and save". It saved and then I lost the connection! I got an "unable to connect" message and "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server 192.168.1.2". Why? I did not change any IPs when I entered the security data, did I?

Please help me get to the next step!

Thanks,

Mamadu

I don't know why it would have done that and I no longer have a unit to test with.

I suggest you post here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/zyxel

No slight on LQ, but this is pretty ZyXEL-specific.

@2Gnu: ok. I posted my question there. We will see what replies I get.

@raskin: problems. The computer which I used to try to connect to the wifi has a major hardware problem. I need to fix this one first. However, I want to try your approach with another computer using a live-CD of Xubuntu. On this machine I get these results:

'lshw -C network':

Quote:
*-network DISABLED
description: Ethernet interface
physical id: 1
logical name: wlan0
capabilities: ethernet physical
configuration: broadcast=yes driver=p80211_prism2_usb driverversion=0.2.5 link=no multicast=yes
'iwlist scan'

Quote:
wlan0 no scan results
I was using an Ashton Air Dash WRUB-2011i model WN220 which, if I am not mistaken, the computer 'sees'.

Can I go forward with this card by your method?

Many thanks,

M

Try 'ifconfig wlan0 up' or 'ip link set wlan0 up' (equivalent) and 'iwconfig wlan0 power on' before 'iwlist scan' . Also try to grep dmesg output for 'prism' and 'wlan0'.
