Configure ath0 -- help please!!

I'm struggling with my new NetGear WG511T card. I now have the MadWiFi driver installed and iwlist ath0 scan does show my router but I can't get the card to add itself to the network. I've read a lot of posts and they all seem to say the same thing but it's not working for me.

If someone has dealt with this and can help me I would appreciate it.

You probably need to associate yourself with the router. Are you using WEP? First off run
Code:
iwconfig ath0 essid network_name_here
Type man iwconfig to find out how to make your card listen on a certain channel/frequency and use WEP if you need to. That should do the trick.

Also, make sure your driver is loaded.
Code:
modprobe driver_name
- root3d

Thanks for your help. I've done that but I haven't read the iwconfig man page so I'll do that. I've got the driver loaded, assigned the ESSID, key, channel, ap, etc. but it just doesn't seem to go. Any other ideas are appreciated and I'll go to the man pages.

Run dhclient as root to get an IP assigned to your box. That worked for me.

I've been running dhcpcd ath0 and it doesn't report any problems but it doesn't help either. What should i do for dhclient? I just typed 'dhclient' and it didn't help...
When I scan I can see the router so it must not be too far from working, right?? If I can get this going I'll be sure to make an entry in the HCL so no one else has to go through this.
What about the /etc/pcmcia/config file? I've got an entry there but I can't be sure it's right.
ANY help is appreciated. I know this can be worked out.

hi
I have nearly the same problem but with a netgear wg311 (and madwifi). The thing is dhclient doesn't know my ath0 interface and it complains everytime i try run it. But my card is up and bound to the router. Just need an Ip address . .

Could you tell me what your etc/dhclient.conf is like please ?
