How do I do something as root? Is that where I type "su -"? The installation instructions say I have to run "make" as root, and the response message from the console is unintelligible to me, so I can't tell if I did it correctly.



Tne of the reasons I'm not getting anywhere with Linux is because the instructions for Ndiswrapper (and ACPI) from Sourceforge tend to cause my head to explode. Why doesn't Linux patch the qqxxx?! kernel for me? How is Linux supposed to become more popular than Windows if installations are that complicated to the Linux-ignorant (me)?

Well, the point is that you are supposed to work up experience and eventually become non-ignorant.

Anyway, you would type the "su" command on the command line, obviously, and then it will ask you for the password for root.

You can also see what user you are logged in as by running "whoami".
