Smile Communication in Ad-hoc mode

Still I am not comfortable with the information what I have read related to the behaviour of wireless nodes in an infrastructure or in an ad-hoc network. In W-LAN infrastructure networks beacons are transmitted from the AP which allot the space for the nodes present under its network. In case of an ad-hoc network csma-ca is adopted for channel access but still I have a question about the beacons in an ad-hoc network whether beacons are trasmitted by nodes in an ad-hoc network or not?? how these beacons are transmitted with respect to time..if there are more number of ad-hoc nodes...??can any one help me on this ...
