Hi all, just joined, so hello.
I've just installed Mint17 (2 days ago) on to my HP netbook, after getting really pi%%ed off with XP for the last time.
The OS works well, though it seems slow (maybe my hardware at fault), and I've managed to get it to recognise the ethernet, finally, though even when it finally recognised my wireless router it won't connect. Message is 'out of range' ... LOL, it's right next to me.
Anyway, I will have a more thorough search of the forums to see if I can find a solution, but what's the point of having a laptop if you have to sit at a desk in the office with it? I just want to sit on the lounge and surf the web.
Whinge over, thanks for listening.
Oh, and I can't find a search box on the forum ... I will keep 'searching' for it ...
Oh, I'm so funny!
Cheers
Robyn
Ok, not sure what exactly I did, but trying to follow the suggested links just put me into tears of frustration, trying to read a language that is totally foreign to me. Anyway, finally I did a google search for BCM4312 driver, and found this page:
I followed the commands posted there, and suddenly the network settings showed. Then, just as suddenly, the little wireless light on the netbook changed from blue to orange. It was just a matter of flicking it back on and here I am without ethernet cable!
This is the command that did it (I think):
sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer
I want to personally thank all the people on this forum who give so much of their time and knowledge to help the likes of me. Without your guidance I probably would've gone out and bought Windows7. (just kidding)
