We have been trying for hours to get the wireless network on my new laptop (HP 6735s) to work, but the wireless card is no where to show, the computer doesn't find it.
What can we do? If we at least could get it there, we could try other things to make it work, but now we are stuck. We have tryed everything!

It shouldn't be very difficult. Identify your wireless chip and then determine if it is supported by madwifi. If it is, set it up for madwifi. If not, I guess you'll have to use the ndiswrapper approach. Do a search for madwifi. Good luck.

Looking on the web, that computer uses a broadcom device rather than an atheros device. You need to use the b43 kernel driver (which you have), and you also need to cut the firmware, which the b43 driver needs.

This forum has instructions in installing the firmware. It is for Fedora, but you want the same firmware from the wrt site:

The device needs to be working before you can configure your wireless device. If you have the wireless-tools package installed you can run "sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan" to see if the device detects access points. If it does, you can proceed to configure the device, authentication & your network settings.

thanks for all the tips. We had been trying with everything we found in forums for 7 hours before I wrote here. Then we just installed all 289 updates, restarted the computer and hey, there was the wireless network... and it worked!

Glad you got it going. Linux has come a long way in a short time. I got my printer working and wireless. It's great.
