Cannot Open Files in Windows Share
My issue is that I cannot open files (word, excel, text, etc.) stored in the windows share. If I copy the files to a local folder on the debian machine, they open just fine. But that defeats the purpose (mine) of having the files stored on the windows 7 machine. I have successfully done this with other distros (primarily the buntus) so it should work with debian. I have googled for a answers but none have helped, I have compared all the gvfs, fuse, and smb files on a working system with those installed in debian and all seem to be the same. So either I am missing a file somewhere or there is an issue with debian. I would very much like to stay with debian because of its low ram usage and everything else seems to work beautifully.
I am running Debian 7.7, fully updated, on a laptop that is networked with a windows 7 pc. The windows 7 shares have been created with proper permissions set (this is all good because it works with other distros). If you can help, I would sure appreciate it. thx |

Still working on this from time-to-time and as of yet have not found an answer. I just installed the latest version of solydx (because it is supposed to be pure debian with the xfce desktop)out of curiosity and lo and behold it has the same issue. I also installed crunchbang but it does NOT have the problem so I am not sure what the issue is. I have tried to compare the gvfs, fuse, and samba files but with my limited knowledge, the systems look the same. As I said, the reason I am pursuing this originally was because I needed the function on a netbook with low ram and debian boots with about the ram as most other distros. However, now it is now a learning thing. I want to find out what makes some systems work and some do not. Thx for any help anyone could give.
