Can See But Not Connect to Wireless Networks 3945 Fedora 6
 

Hey guys,

I am pretty new to linux so sorry if i don't seem to know what i'm doing too much. Well i recently installed Fedora 6 on my Dell 1705 and after a few days of fighting with the wireless card i finally got to the point that i could actually see the differet wireless networks (i used fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=148278 the directions in the wireless section of this to get my wireless up and running)

Well i can see the networks via NetworkManager and WiFi Radar but the output is the same from both; it won't get an IP address from the router. I have tried both encrypted and unencrypted but it won't connect to either. Any help would be appreciated. Let me know if you need to see any of my configurations.

Have you simply tried running dhclient manually (i.e. "sudo dhclient eth2", if eth2 is your wireless interface)? That would allow you to connect to most default-configuration home routers. Also, have you installed all three components needed to run the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 (i.e. the ipw3945 driver, the ipw3945 firmware, and the ipw3945d regulatory daemon)? You can get them from ipw3945.sourceforge.net if you haven't.

After running "sudo dhclient eht1" (eth1 is my wireless device) i still get the same results. Also i forgot to include when i run iwconfig i get this message:

Warning: Driver for device eth1 has been compiled with version 21
of Wireless Extension, while this program supports up to version 19.
Some things may be broken...

Could this be causing the problem?

Yes, this may be causing the problem, but for me it works anyways! I just exec: "iwconfig eth1 channel 11" the wireless led goes on and stop blinding, and "dhcpcd eth1" after that I get an ip and my wireless works. If you get an ip check your /etc/resolv.net and verify that the line "nameserver your.router.ip.adress" appear.

Well, i did the iwconfig eth1 channel 11 and the LED did stop blinking and has gone to solid until i try to connect to wireless networks then it blinks. However, i still haven't gotten at IP address even after trying "dhclient eth1" and it stil wasn't abot to connect to any networks. Thanks for the help :)
