After another couple of days of head bashing against the wall, I'm back to LinuxQuestions. I've had my system working before (Suse 9.2), but it seems like everytime I want to do things differently I can't get the wifi to work. Here's the problem this time:
From Gnome I use QInternet. It shows the connection is fine. Name Server: 192.168.0.1. (That has worked in the past for me.)But I cannot browse the web. When I log in under KDE, KInternet shows "Name Server failure: address lookup does not work" at the same time that QInternet shows no problem with the name server. What do I need to do the get the wifi working again? Once that is answered, I wonder if I can use both KDE and Gnome for wifi.
KDE and Gnome are just frontends for the underlying Linux, so Yes, you can use them.
How are you connecting? Thru a router?(From the nameserver IP address, I would assume so.) Try using DHCP instead of the static setup you are currently using.
If not possible, or wanted, get to the routers configuration, and find its nameserver/DNS addresses, and put that in your network setup, or even better, your resolv.conf (Mine is in /etc/resolv.conf)
Sorry, cwwilson721. I spoke too soon. It's true that I'm still getting name server failure message, but I am able to browse. Thanks for the suggestion. It seemed to do the trick.
