Hi... I have finally decided to ditch XP on one of my regular computers (an oldish Dell PIII Laptop) and have plumped for a Kubuntu install...
I have managed (after about a day of messing around) to get my Linksys WPC54G wireless card to work with this including wpa-psk support using wpa-supplicant and ndiswrapper and I can browse the web using the card.
Now my problem, I want to be able to share files/folders with my other PC on the network, a WinXP desktop, but I can't "see" it from the Kubuntu Laptop, I have installed Samba and winbind to no avail, but have discovered that I can't even ping the IP address of the XP machine
Also the XP machine can't ping the laptop either...
Both the Laptop and Desktop can ping the router (default gateway) and themselves on loopback
I'm not at my home machine at the minute, but from memory, In XP (pro), I set the workgroup name to my workgroup (same as the domain name set up in kubuntu), enabled file and printer sharing and shared some directories and under network settings, TCP/IP, I enabled netbios, think its under the advanced tab.
Are you using a router? If so you may need to set its domain name to match the workgroup name too (I did this but don't know if it was a contributing factor to getting stuff working!)
Hope this helps, post again if not and I'll investigate my settings further.
