Can't install driver for Zyxel (TI ACX 111) wireless card

Hi.

I have Ubuntu 6.06.

I installed a wireless card that uses a Texas Instruments chipset.

Here is what I have and what I've done..
ZyXEL G-302 (Texas Instruments ACX 111 chip) wireless PCI card

I Downloaded the .zip file for the Zyxel G-162 card which has the TI ACX 111 just as my G-302.

Extract the driver files into ~/drivers

It has these files: FwRad16.bin, FwRad17.bin, FwRad19.bin, tnet1130.sys, tnet1130x.sys and TNET1130.inf

then:
Code:
sudo ndiswrapper -i ~/drivers/tnet1130.inf
Installing tnet1130.inf
couldn't copy ~/drivers/tnet1130.inf at /usr/sbin/ndiswrapper line 135.
Ok, guess it didn't work.

Code:
sudo ndiswrapper -l
Installed ndis drivers:
tnet1130 invalid driver!
I'd like some help installing the driver for my wireless card using ndiswrapper.

Thanks!!!!

I was told I should remove the acx driver which came with my distro, as it does not work and prevents the real driver from working. I removed it.

What does the 'line 135' error mean?

I posted this on the Ubuntu forums and haven't gotten a reply yet.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Its case sensitive so you would do sudo ndiswrapper -i ~/drivers/TNET1130.inf - I have dlink card with the same chipset and true enough it doesnt work with the acx module - wrong firmware so i just added it to
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and added ndiswrapper to /etc/modules

Thanks.
Obviously, I'm new.

Anyhow, I tried it again with caps and it worked, so I got the message saying driver installed, hardware installed.

Now my problem is when I go to System=> Administration=> Networking, the wlan0 is not listed anymore. Before installing the driver, it was listed, just not working. Now it does not show up.

I typed lspci and the wireless card shows up there...

Any ideas?

PS- What do you mean by adding ndiswrapper to /etc/modules ?
Is that something to be done in addition to simply installing ndiswrapper?

Thanks

Ok if you do lsmod and acx is listed you need to add this line to the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist "blacklist acx" and add ndiswrapper to the file /etc/modules. It may be that you have two drivers at the same time for one device. If you do lsmod and acx is listed, try rmmod acx first then modprobe ndiswrapper and check dmesg to see if ndiswrapper loads ok, then blacklist acx as above.

ok,

acx does not show up when I do lsmod. I was advised to remove acx, so I did... I suppose I should have just blacklisted it, but oh well. I added acx to the blacklist file anyways.

modprobe ndiswrapper: produces no results, just a new command line.. is this what it's supposed to do?

dmesg:

Code:
[ 41.594378] NET: Registered protocol family 17
[ 43.842866] ndiswrapper version 1.8 loaded (preempt=yes,smp=yes)
[ 43.897150] ndiswrapper (check_nt_hdr:149): Windows driver is not 64-bit; bad magic: 010B
[ 43.897154] ndiswrapper (load_sys_files:218): couldn't prepare driver 'tnet1130'
[ 43.897494] ndiswrapper (load_wrap_driver:112): loadndiswrapper failed (65280); check system log for messages from 'loadndisdriver'
[ 46.737930] ACPI: Power Button (FF) [PWRF]
So I am assuming that the driver isn't 64-bit, so it won't work with ubuntu 64?

What now?

Ah, quite right cant use 32 bit drivers - dont know if there are any 64 bit drivers for your card that you can try.

Can I take the 32 bit driver and copy it into a lib folder or something?

The tnet1130 you have wont work as its 32bit windows driver, very few 64 bit drivers around at the moment.Check Zyxel web site to see if they have 64 bit windows driver and try that if there is one.
A long shot but if you get back your original acx module and try that again - modprobe it and check dmesg to see what errors come up and try to solve. My acx came up with wrong default firmware but I dont know how to correct that so just used ndiswrapper instead (32 bit xubuntu)
If all else fails try here http://acx100.sourceforge.net/info_extern.html - forums suggest 64bit success
