As I understand it, you need the WPA_supplicant package installed to use WPA encryption. I have never tried it, since my router does not support WPA One of these days I'll upgrade, but right now the first thing is my old rig...
Thanks Cliff, I already had WPA_supplicant installed, but when I looked it up I saw that I also needed a package called xsupplicant. Haven't tried yet, but I believe it will work now.
XSupplicant and wpa_supplicant provide the same functionality. They serve as the authentication mechanism for the 802.1x portion of WPA. You need one or the other, but not both.
