Under Windows, I make broadband connection (entering user name and pass word) to connect my computer to the internet from local service provider via wireless access point. I couldn't find proper tool to make the similar in Linux Mandrake 10.1. Would you help me in that, please.
If you connect to a wireless access point, you need to have 1) wireless drivers for your card (can you get it powered, for example, can you get the Wireless light lit if you have one?) and a program to control the connection; command-line program for connecting to a wireless ap is iwlist (and some other tools that start with iw); on KDE (don't know what desktop environment Mandrake uses) you can use a nice program called WirelessAssistant (wlassistant) to connect to wireless aps using a graphical tool. On Gnome I'm not sure, maybe a Gnome network configuration tool of some kind.
If it's a pppoe connection, your access point or some router should create the pppoe connection and then you'd connect to that access point I think. If you need to establish the connection yourself...well, then I'm not so sure. I use pppoeconf (or pppoe-setup or adsl-setup depending on the distribution) to configure regular RJ45-connected pppoe dsl connections, but that probably won't work for wireless devices (or does it?)
I thank you "b0uncer" for replaying. The wireless access point is connected to the computer via a LAN cable (RJ-45 Port). Under windows, I make PPPoE broadband connection. Actually, I managed to make a connection under a Linux distribution (Joath Notix live Linux CD) using a tool to make ISDL connection. That connection was severely slow (I have no ideas about the reason). But, under my installed Mandrake Linux, I couldn't make even such a connection. I also can not find the 'pppoeconf ' that you, kindly, mentioned.
Thanks again
www.ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net for answers. Mandriva will configure YOUR Network in the Distro during the installation. It is worth the time to re-install YOUR Distro. YOU said YOU use PPPoE. Some ISP's use PPPoA. Mine does. Mine will not use PPPoE, so my Linux Box will not run PPPoE. YOUR ISP may have some answers for YOU as well.
