Belkin F5D6001 Wireless PCI Card !? Suse 8.2
 

Hello,

Did see a similiar question below, though I am not sure that realtek concerns med.
Did Install suse 8.2 on a machine running Windows xp, 2 separate disc though, and I have a lan card on my motherboard - inactive now.

Suse still wants to set 2 different networks card on eth0 and eth1.

Does any of the wireless options point in my direction ?
or do I have to get some drivers from somewhere ?
is it best to upgrade to a newer version ?

SuSE 8.2 is a reasonably recent 2.4 kernel so most of what has been said here recently about
Belkin F5D60XX should apply.
(I had Wireless working on an "orinoco" card on SuSE 8.2 just before I upgraded, so wireless does work with the dist.)

1st step is probably to do
lspci
and
lspci -n
and see what verdor/product code your card gives.
There seem to be these options:
For version 3 card (RealTek)
1. The realtek Linux driver - but you need to edit vendor/product code
in C source before you built module - only suitable for 2.4 kernel
2. ndiswrapper-0.10 (or commercial driverloader) with realtek XP driver
this time with the .inf file edited to match vendor/product code.

For version 2 card - different chipset (amtel?)

running lspci gives me ->
 

the following -> network controller:linksys:unknown device 8201 (rev 11).
what should i do with that information ? *beeing a novice here*

and it seems that suse has disabled my keyboard key - "< > | " which worries me,
cannot write any scripts then and my the wheel on my microsoft usb mouse is not working.

and can I be sure that the Belkin is an ADM8211?
there is no easy way here, blood, sweat and tears ?

Run update-pciids (in /usr/sbin) as root and then run lspci again. If you have an ADM8211, it'll say so. The (GPL) adm8211 driver shouldn't be too difficult to install. Tears, maybe, from reading the huge thread on the ADM8211 card.
