Auto switching from wired to wireless networking and back?

I got my Mdk 10.1 system set up to use both wired & wireless network connections. Both work fine.

However, can I set up my system to auto-detect the connection type and auto-switch between these connections which ever type is available?

So like this:
- if wired network connected => use this (since faster)
- else if wireless network connected => use this
(and this on the fly, "hot-pluggable" and this fully transparent for the user (since I don want to explain my girl-friend the "su -; ifdown/ifup" commands :-)

Hope to hear from you,
