amilo m7440 - intel 2200BG

Hi guys,
I'm running linux and it finds my intel 2200bg minipc but it says: radio off. In windows I should activate it with a button on my keyboard but for that I need to install software. In linux you have fsam7400 for the 2100 chipset, I also installed that but can't get the radio on. Also ifconfig eth1 up doesn't get the radio on.

Could someone please help me ? I've tried loads of things, searched google, posted on other forums, ...

Um, at least on my Dell, the key for turining the wireless card on and off doesn't care about the OS. I think it is a BIOS function, not an OS function. You might have a rummage in your BIOS and see if there is some setting there for your wireless card.

After doing a bit of reading on the fsam7400 module, it looks like you should just load it with modprobe and the card should the be seen by iwconfig. What is happening when you try to use fsam7400?

When I use fsam, the card is indeed seen bij iwconfig, buth the radio is off. In my bios I can set the wireless function on or off, but that doesn't mean that it starts the radio, the radio stays off. I can't find a bios function that starts the wlan automatically on startup, I can't fix that in the bios...

I just want to make sure that when you load the fsam module, you're telling it to turn on the wireless:

modprobe fsam7400 radio=1

I did a bit more searching, but didn't come up with anything other than this is a terrible situation. If the fsam module isn't turning on the card, about the only other thing I can suggest is to boot into Windows, make sure the card is on, and then boot into Linux and see if the card state is preserved.

And as terrible as it sounds, the easiest solution might be to see if you can pick up a cheap pcmcia card somwhere.

I've got an Amilo m7400 with 2200BG (I know there are a lot of m7400 2100BG models out there). I'm running FC3 (Fedora Core 3) with the radio thing on using the acerhk module.

For setting radio on I make this:

# modprobe -f acerhk poll=0 autowlan=1
# echo on > /proc/driver/acerhk/wirelessled

and voilá.

Now I'm trying to test this in a m7440 but the kernel spits:

FATAL: Error inserting acerhk (/lib/modules/2.6.12-1.1456_FC4/kernel/drivers/char/acerhk.ko): Cannot allocate memory

I don't know where is the problem can be.

acerhk home site: http://www.informatik.hu-berlin.de/~tauber/acerhk/
my precompiled RPM's with sources: http://olea.org/paquetes-rpm/acerhk/

Hope this helps.
