I've got the drivers installed, it says present, but not hardware present, does it matter? Ok so i went on.
I did a iwlist wlan0 scan, and found my network! I put in my essid and encryption key. I cant connect? I dont get an ip address. So i turn off my encryption, still doesnt work. Any ideas? I'm on a Compaq presario 2100 (amd) notebook with suse 9.1
It's possible you don't have the right drivers being wrapped. I used to use this, and it's perfectly possible for it to say everything is okay, and then not work correctly. It had to try a few times before it would actually connect and talk with my network, and not just see it. Try other versions of the driver.
In dmesg it says that is is using bcmwl5.sys, but i cant get an ip address. My wireless card is a Broadcom BCM94306 802.11g. I also have a Proxim Orinoco 802.11b gold pcmcia card. The model is 8420-wd. If anyone can give me a step by step instruction on how to get the pcmcia card to work, would be great. Or just help with the other card.

get it working like this
Hi,
First things first you need to make sure that you have the yenta socket module loaded. Do this by running the command (in a console window) lsmod. You should see the module loaded. If not then add this line to your /etc/modules.preload fle. If you don't have this file, then you can add it to modules.conf if neccessary.
yenta_socket
Then load ndiswrapper with your driver .inf file. Follow this with ndiswrapper -m to write to the modules.conf file.
Now run the command in a console window-- iwlist wlan0 scan. This should return the wireless net info. If not, then you may need to upgrade the ndiswrapper package to the latest
Now edit your /etc/rc.d/rc/local file and add this line at the end:-
ifup wlan0
You should now be good to go on boot up.
Hope this helps
