Hi all...I'm stuck since month with the well known problems with the ALFA awus036h antenna.

I've tried everything I found for months in Ubuntu (11.10 and up), Mint, Fedora and the (usually) swiss knife Puppy.

Nothing seems to really work.

I'm NOW browsing for three hours usingthe last fix I found:

unplug antenna

disable and reenable wifi (any way)

modprobe rtl8187 (to be sure the driver is up and running)

iwconfig wlan1 rate auto

plug the ALFA again

it works BY NOW, but browsing is too slow, and I don't know what will happen after next reboot.

It SEEMS to me that this problem exists "universally" after some kernel upgrade.

I'd be VERY happy to downgrade to whatever will allows me a decent navigation and fast enough download.

Does anybody know which kernel version really worked with this damn antenna??
I use an old Atom and a desktop with an Athlon64, and I'd like to use the antenna with both these systems

I dont know but I would setup few "google alerts" on this topic with search keywords like the "xxx:yyy" "ALFA awus036h" "ALFA antenna".. and observe any movement in the net regarding this topic... and wait.

Not sure about how useful a google alert about my antenna could be, but believe me...it's the only thing I didn't try till today (if you don't consider throwing this USBcrap out of the window).

But I guess there would be too many alerts. Try too google the issue, you'll recieve tons of results in ANY linux forum.

I really hope somebody here can do the magic, otherwise I simply don't knoe what to do

a google alert will release NEW informations in the net from now on. I see you had a deep look into the existing ones.
Did you try "ndiswrapper"?
This is what I used for my "Fritz USB Wlan" which is poorly supported in Linux (seems to be a german local USB Wlan stick; so, with few international support).
