I'm using Madwifi with my Atheros AR5212 chipset card/
The card works great and I can put it in monitor/managed/ap modes;access private commands and use the wireless extensions etc.

I'm trying to create a ath0raw device so I can do packet injection but I get the afore error.

The laptop is currenty running 2.6.15 kernel on slack 10.0
I believe that I am using the latest madwifi-ng drivers.

svn checkout http://svn.madwifi.org/trunk madwifi-ng

Yes the card is in monitor mode when I try this
I create a new device with
wlanconfig ath1 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode monitor

I confirm that all is well with iwconfig ath1 and then do the command above..
