Adaptec 8020 USB Wifi Help

Hello all,

this is my first post so please kind!

Anyway semi - linux newbie needs some help with the above device.

I am running red hat 7.3 and 9 on two different machines.
I know my USB is working on both as I have a third party USB memory device working.

Looking at

<this is a url , but I am not allowed to post these. www>linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_adapters.html </this is a url , but I am not allowed to post these.>

I found my device listed and installed the nessacary RPMs making care to ensure I had the correct versions. Configured the text files as needed.

However I have the problem that upon boot up or restarting the network service i get this:

"Bringing up interface wlan0: prism2_usb device wlan0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization."

Can anyone shed any light??

I am in the EU and would that mean my Adaptec 8020 USB is different from a US one? Meaning it might not be a prism 2???

Thanks.

I'm also a newbie but I have been playing with the wlan-ng drivers for a couple months now.
I would check out the wlan-ng mailinglists, there are lots of posts about how sketchy USB support can be. On my machine, using a MSI KT600 mb and a Seimens 1022 USB Wifi card, I have to unplug the card before boot-up and plug it back in afterward. Then hotplug recognizes it (most of the time) and I'm either good to go or I just have to run a script, doing the config stuff from the wlan readme file. I also found the RPMs on the net weren't terribly reliable, plus the only ones I found were quite old. I reccomend compiling the sources. Hope something here is useful, good luck.

hows so far?

i am having exactly the same problem as you... I got Adaptec AWN8020 USB Wireless adapter, but can't install it.
I know I should use wlan-ng module, but already installed, still can't recognise my adapter...

so if you or anybody else have solution, help would highly appreciated...
