Access samba share via android phone / WiFi

Hello,
It’s my fist post on this forum and I hope to get some input here :)

I have a problem accessing a shared hard disk via samba. My setup is a rasPi 3 running the latest version of OSMC. The hard drive (NTFS) is connected to the rasPi and mounted correctly. I installed samba via the OSMC app store.

So I can access the connected hard drive and the rasPi via my Windows Laptop, but not from my Android phone.

I tried several apps (ES file Explorer, X-plore, AndSMB…) but none seems to be able to connect. The ES file Explorer app even shows my OSMC on the network but I can’t connect. It takes some time and finishes with an error message.
I have not made any changes to the smb.conf file. The only thing I changed is the default password. You can find the smb.conf provided by OSMC here:
https://github.com/osmc/osmc/blob/ma...samba/smb.conf

I also posted this matter to the OSMC forum, the only advice I got was to try a SFTP connection, which I tried but without success.
I’m quite a noob with Linux and can’t find a solution. Strange thing is that Windows is connecting without issues.
I would really appreciate some help!

Thanks!

Google is your friend.

Not sure, but I believe the key here is the app. Android has no native capability to play windows client, but there are SMB/CIFS clients as apps for it. SOME, but not all, file managers have SMB/CIFS built-in. A quick search turns up AndSMB and File Manager from ZenUI.

BTW: secured shares that do not require authentication are easy. The app MUST have security setup for defining a connection that allows entry and secure storage of the credentials to be suitable for accessing secured shares. This seems so basic, but some apps either lack or hide any such settings: they depend upon the share being a guest/public share.

Does your share require authentication?

Hi,

yes my share does need authentication. I already tried andSMB (with all the credentials entered - same ones as I entered in Windows)also in es File Explorer and x-plore you can fill in the credentials. No success so far.

I wil try the app ZenUI as soon as i can.

So I tried the app ZenUI. No success. The Share is found and when I try to open it password and username are asked. Even with the correct username and password (the ones that work with Windows) I get an connection error after some time.
