2.6.13 and WPA supplicant not playing with each other

I recently upgraded to slackware 10.2 and installed the 2.6.13 kernel, but now WPA supplicant won't work. I've reinstalled it 3 times now, checked, double checked and triple checked all my config files and it just won't work.

This is what i get when i start up wpa_cli:
Code:
<2>Trying to associate with 00:13:10:fa:d1:5e (SSID='home' freq=0 MHz)
<2>Authentication with 00:00:00:00:00:00 timed out.
<2>Trying to associate with 00:13:10:fa:d1:5e (SSID='home' freq=0 MHz)
<2>Authentication with 00:00:00:00:00:00 timed out.
(over and over)

You may have another wpa_supplicant process already running or the file was

I don't know if this is your problem or not, but the 2.6.13 kernel contains a new version of the wireless interface that Slackware 10.2 doesn't support yet. In fact the wireless tools available on the net doesn't really support it yet. When I tried to use 2.6.13 it caused all sorts of havoc with iwconfig, so I went back to my previous 2.6.11. So unless you have a need for 2.6.13, I'd suggest being a little less bleeding edge.

I run wpa_supplicant with madwifi on Slackware 10.2 kernel 2.6.13 - without any problem (on the 2.4 kernel it works fine too btw).
My guess is that it will work with the ipw2200 driver that you're using, too (I still run Slackware 10.1 on the PC where I use ipw2200 so I cannot verify that yet). Initially I had the same problems, but I got WPA to work again in the end. You can get my packages here (the CVS version for wpa_supplicant is OK):

http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slac...pa_supplicant/
http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slac...ireless-tools/

Note that the package for wireless tools is important, the version that comes with Slackware 10.2 is not recent enough.

Cheers, Eric
