Xen 4.1 & Ubuntu 12.10 - having issues with Unity

1) Installed Ubuntu 12.10 on an ASUS G73 Laptop with no issues.
2) Installed Xen 4.1 following the instructions here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Xen
3) Completed instructions upto the reboot. This is when issues started.

Issues:
(minor) Grub does not default to Xen boot.
(major) Unity briefy starts and then appears to crash? I.E. I see the logon screen for a brief moment then it goes away followed shortly by the mouse cursor. Alt-F1'ing over to a terminal and running startx will bring up the desktop but with out any bars, i.e. no side or top bar. Making the desktop unusable. I am still able to bypass Xen and boot stright into the OS and it works fine.

Other thoughts:
I failed to limit volume size of Dom0.
I failed to patch the OS before installing Xen, I did patch after wards by booting stright into OS.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Xen is not entirely accurate for 12.10. I am will edit it after I get through the process if this will be useful. Thoughts?

Regards,
Michael
