Why can't I access audio cds from Virtualbox

Using Debian testing KDE fully updated with latest Virtualbox , USB works find and I can access data cds but not music cds?
Just want to be able to insert a music cd and click on the tick box to use host cdrom so I can copy audio cd into sonicstage and then onto minidisc. So far have minidisc working and can get round prob by ripping wavs from cd in linux host then inporting wavs into sonicstage before transfering to minidisc but there should be a way to let the windows xp guest see the host cdrom drive.
This is the last thing I'm using windows Vista for so any help / tips would be great.

Thanks davetesc

Do you have the guest additions installed? With that you should be able to access the host drive.

"I can access data cds but not music cds?"

Do they seem to play and you simply do not hear the music?
