Vmware Server FUBARed
Hi,
I'm running a recent kernel and got vmware's modules patched to build/work. I don't want to redo all the futzing around with the modules to get them to build again.
I want to reset the installation though. I've FUBARed one vm that won't delete and the "add hardware" wizard stopped working for the other vms.

Did you try stopping all VMware server and guest processes, then removing the guest from /etc/vmware/vm-list and then restart VMware server? If that didn't work for you could you describe what caused this and post relevant excerpts from /var/log/vmware/vmware-serverd.log, /var/log/vmware/event-[vmguest].vmx.log, /mountpoint/[vmguest]/vmware.log and any related (error) messages in syslog if any?

I tried what you mentioned and it didn't help. The vm was still there, and a convert job that never finished anyway was still there too.
I gave up and deleted /usr/lib/vmware and /etc/vmware. If you don't delete at least /usr/lib/vmware you get a million prompts verifying overwriting every little file.
I reinstalled after that.

Sorry to hear that it did not work for you but then again there have been no details to go on in the first place. Personally speaking I don't like the "just un-install and re-install" mantra as a "fix" for any problems as that's the mcsft way of approaching problems.
