VMWARE - Fedora 20 boot issue
Hello folks. Yesterday I booted a previously working (very smoothly) install of Fedora 20 into single-user mode. I made no changes to anything related to the system or to VMWARE. The next boot after single-user seemed to hang. I've been unable to boot into anything other than single-user since. This includes recovery mode. I can start the VM, get past the GRUB menu, get through the bootup sequence with all "OK"'s, but when it comes to actually completing boot, it just hangs at a black screen. I've left it for hours just to make sure. I can't seem to bootup in runlevel 3 or 5. I checked some logs, don't see anything that indicates any errors or a failure.
I posted a video of the issue to YouTube (link below). I'd really like to boot this machine again, it's my SQL server among other things. Any assistance appreciated. youtu.be/KV1uU31gf5s Thanks in advance! PS - New here, so if I broke the rules in any way..unintentional, sorry. |
fedora and SElinux royally dislike "single user"
( it is for EMERGENCY repair ) install a NORMAL install of fedora multy user with a NON root account |
Hello and welcome to LQ.
I think I'd boot the vm to a live cd/dvd to first see if you can get the data off. As to how to repair it, maybe a full clean install to a new vm and then migrate data over. You could try to tell us how far it does get trying to boot maybe also. Screen words, var/logs. |
