virtual box keyboard host key
Hi This all started with a virtual machine of Ubuntu 12.04.
i do not like the Unity desktop so want to return to Gnome. i have found ways to do this which involve a Terminal and commands. the problem is i cannot start a Terminal in 12.04. the only way i see is the keyboard short cut cntl+alt+t. this does not work on any virtual machine. articles say that the cntl+alt is not passed to the VM so use the host key +t ?? other documentation say the if the keyboard is captured the cntl+alt is passed to the VM. what ever i cannot start a Terminal?? my host key was set to right-cntl and would not surrender my mouse?? some how?? i changed it to left-shift and that does surrender my mouse.???? now am really confused. thanks for any help ken |
As a workaround until you find a solution, can you use Alt+F2 to get the run dialog and start a terminal from there?

i did find a method to start a terminal. the top left whatever when clicked shows icons such as calculator and others. it also has a search type box. if terminal is entered a terminal icon is displayed. starting the terminal and the commands i was able to return to Gnome and am much happier.
thanks for the help ken |
