I'm getting ready to do a fresh install of Linux and I'll have a need to run VBox for a Windows-specific program (Logos Bible Software; for a graduate school project).
I'm partial to Slackware but the last time I tried to run VBox in Slack (12.1, I think it was), it was glitchy -- it hung on boot, stuff like that. So, I've been thinking of installing Debian this time for my desktop. I've used Sidux and Debian stable in the past and the package system is just about as idiot-proof as they come (and at times I'm the idiot that needs a lot of proofing).
However... I'm partial to Slackware. Would anyone out there have anything to say about VBox running WinXP inside Slackware 13.1? Good? Bad? Indifferent?
This is how I do it:
1) Go to this page
2) Download the file among "All distribtions" which fits you architecture (either i386 for Slackware 13.1 or AMD64 for Slackware64-13.1)
3) Open a terminal, become root, cd to the directory where you downloaded the file
4) Run "sh <file name>" to launch the installer
5) Use the command "VirtualBox" to run Virtual Box.
Only make sure that you have kernel-source and kernel-headers packages before step 4, as it's needed to compile the Virtual Box kernel modules (which is done automatically by the installer).
Or you have the option to make a package of and install the OSE edition with the SlackBuild provided by slackbuilds.org if you prefer.
