network interfaces on vertual box

I have installed virtual box on ubuntu

and Installed arch linux on virtual ( I think ubuntu is host and arch is guest correct?)

and ifconfig output on arch gives only the eth0 with 10.x.x.x and lo

Cable modem is connected to this ubuntu system. How can i write iptables rules? What will be the interface of original network card on arch?

I am not sure that your problem has much to do with the larger "picture" of the network as vbox.

When I started using vbox, I attempted to go it alone. Within a short time, going through links and links in Google I came to the realization that most of the answers were in the vbox manual. The vbox network arrangements, although difficult when you look at it are not necessarily difficult to understand.

Your address issue, specifically, I cannot help you. I do think you will save yourself a lot of hassle going through the manual and understanding NAT, Host Only, Bridge and Internal network.

Also, I can tell you from the experiences I have had so far (six months), you will still need to share The host directories that you want to see.

Best I can do.

Correct.

Arch (guest) needs only one IP address to connect to the Internet -- which is what you presumably want to do.

You don't need IPTABLES to connect Arch (guest) to the Internet; the VirtualBox software looks after everything for you automatically as long as you have given the Arch virtual machine the right type of network adapter. NAT is the default and works "out of the box".

The next step is to analyse Internet connectivity on Arch in the same way as if it were running on real hardware. What is the output of the following commands on Arch:
Code:
ifconfig
route -n
ping 75.126.162.205
ping linuxquestions.org
dig linuxquestions.org
cat /etc/resolv.conf

My system has two network cards - Only one is currently connected( to the cable modem)
But I have assigned ipno 192.168.0.2 to other network interface. In the host system (ubuntu ) it is there. Where is the second network interface on arch?

And

The eth0 interface is different from the real network interface. Vertual machine eth0 has 10.x.x.x and the real one is a different range.

Getting internet is not my issue. I want to connect the arch virtual machine to the rest of the network (One connected to the second interface having no 192.168.0.). I have to do iptable rules for the correct working as this is a multihomes pc and hence with the absense of iptable rules local network will not work correctly.

My goal is to connect the virtual pc to the local network. I think instead of nat ihave to do bridged connection. And how can Ido it
