Dear friends, I'm new in this forum. I hope I'm posting my request in the right forum. I downloaded Live media usb.usb file from the official website, but I don't know how to use this extention (.usb) could anybody enlighten me in this matter please, thanks in advance.
never heard of it. You should have posted the exact file name with extenion inclused, along with the website address you got this from.
-1 pt for withholding information.
it should have an iso at the very least an img extension attched to it.
You should maybe bounce over to distrowatch and see what they have to offer you.
the file is Openindiana OS, the whole name is OI-hipster-gui-20161030.usb
thanks again
It is NOT linux. This is new to me. Thanks for sharing.

The OpenIndiana project is the open source community which develops, maintains,
and supports the OpenIndiana distribution, an illumos based Unix-like operating
system derived from OpenSolaris.
It is a Solaris base OS. soooo look out. Solaris is like Windows in respect that it thinks it is the most important OS in the world so it does not play nice with other OS's in getting it to dual boot. But that is Solairs.
It states here on their download page.
For instructions regarding downloading, preparing and installing the images, please refer to the OpenIndiana Handbook.
If you look closer to the two types of downloads, one is iso and the other is usb. Select the live DVD not the LIVE USB download and try it again. Else read their how to install page to figure out that usb one.
If you want to compare OpenIndiana as a distribution it has a long way
to go for becoming an end user operating system as there are lot of
packages that are missing. From an OS developer perspective there are a lot
of areas that need development effort in OpenIndiana.
Thank you so much my friend, actually why i intended to try Openindian is because of this login screen, I really like it https://www.openindiana.org/wp-conte...gin-screen.png
Do you have any idea how to get this theme and make it work in linux mint ?
sorry if my question was too shallow

as this is in a VM post, and not seeing what code is used to make it. I assume XML or alike, you may be able to install it in VM then swipe (copy) it out of wherever that OS keeps it then mod it to meet the requirements for Linux Mint login screen. By using one of their themes as a guild line. I think it is highly doable.
