Linux From Scratch: VirtualBox or Direct to HD partition?
Hey all,
I am interested in learning via LFS, I currently multi boot Ubuntu 10.04_64, Slackware 13, and Vista.
Q1: What might be some benefits to Virtualization or just Hosting via one OS and sending LFS to HD partition?
Q2: Is there a way to convert an OS image (on VirtualBox) to an .iso once I am happy with it, then transfer it to my HD?
Newbie so be gentle!

I would say if at all possible just use an extra partition and run it natively. If you use a vm to build it in, it's going to take forever. If you're not worried about time, a vm will let you (depending on what virtualization you use) pause the vm so you can shut down your machine or do whatever you need. As far as converting the disk image, you could always tar the end result up and extract it on a different machine. I don't know about direct converting of a .vdi to .iso though.

You almost can't bork your host install with a VM.
It runs just as fast on newer systems.
There are plenty of ways to try to move it but as always a proper install is the best. See P2V or the reverse applications or simply dd in and out.
