Is the extension pak the same as guest additions?

Hello

I've download and installed the extension pack for virtualbox 4.2.16. I noticed there is a guest additions from the device menu. Do I need this or is the extension pack good enough

thanks

As I understand it - extension pack is what you install on VirtualBox on the host side. Guest addition is installed on the guest side.

So, in effect, you need both for full functionality.
