Has anyone attempted running OS/2 guest under KVM (or other host)?
Hello,
I'm considering adding a KVM to my FC11 system and I would like to know if anyone attempted (succeeded?) running OS/2 quest under KVM (or other) host? I'm attempting to setup a dual OS system with LINUX being the main OS and OS/2 (eCS 1.2R) being a "backward compatibility" bridge to the things I wrote/configured in the past. I looked at the "Guest status list" and didn't see OS/2 mentioned, neither as "runs" nor as "fails". TIA, kaza. |
What sort of sick puppy would (still) want to run OS/2 .... ?
<insert emoticon of choice> Yes, I know it had some good features, but that was a while ago. Try it and see - if it doesn't work, all you've lost is a bit of time. And you've learnt something as a by-product. |
OS/2 still has some good features. It was a much underated OS mainly due to poor marketing by IBM and deliberate undermining by Microsoft. It is still widely in use in various niche markets like banking, insurance and specialized data processing.

Side by side with my new (1 year) LINUX (and eCS with not so cooperative Adaptec driver) PC stands my old (15 years) PC with WARP 3. I'm searching for a way to have some way to run some old OS/2 SW until everything that works on the old PC (except for keyboard requiring force it's functional) runs on the new or I replaced it with LINUX apps or recompiled under LINUX what had been compiled under OS/2. Yes, I started reading about KVM and will try when I'll have some time, but I also hoped to hear that someone tried this before me so I won't need to reinvent the bicycle... TIA, kaza. |
