guest-os window size in virtualbox
While running the guest OS's on virtualbox, it is displayed in a window.
When run in fulscreen mode, though the virtualbox dialog box enlarges, the guest os window is still displayed in a window |
You mean the guest window is not properly full screen? Sounds like it's just at a different resolution to the host, in which case that behaviour seems totally correct. You can always not use the guest console and use a remote desktop solution, e.g. nx / vnc / msrdp to have a nicer more generic way to access it. I run a windows7 KVM instance on my laptop and find going in via rdesktop much more integrated than using virtmanager.

I am also facing the exact same problem, I shall look up on vnc as suggested by you, acid!
Did you install the Virtualbox Guest Additions?
I don't know to whom is the question addressed, but I'll answer that I didn't.
The Guest Additions contain a graphics driver for the virtual graphics card in the VM. If you install the additions you will get true fullscreen.
thanks and you mean there is no other way out? not even the vnc?
Sorry, I don't know much about vnc. But I think to install the guest additions is the easiest way. There are other convenience features, like desktop integration (no more need for capturing the mouse and keyboard).
thanks again, can you elaborate more on desktop integration? how to achieve that..etc?
Just install the Additions. You can move the mouse out and in the VM window as you like, and the resolution settings in the VM will be changed automatically if you resize the window.
thanks but I am surprised that you dodged the "desktop integration" question ;) alright I shall install the additions.
Sorry. Information about the desktop integration can be found here in the Virtual box manual.
Thanks again, it was helpful, I shall look into them.
Thank u everybody
A lot of information!! I have to install Guest additions. Also great information about desktop integration. One doubt if use vnc as suggested by acid, is it required to connect from another computer? |
I didn't suggest vnc. vnc is fscking awful, avoid like the plague, and try nx instead. and you ARE connecting from a different computer, the host.
