This is one of a few different ways:
1. Mount the image: Devices--> Install Guest Additions.
2. Double click the disc displayed on the desktop.
3. Right click on the appropriate file:
VBoxLinuxAdditions-amd64.run if you are running 64bit Ubuntu
or
VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run if you are running 32bit Ubuntu
4. Select Open with Other Application
5. Select Use a custom command
6. Type gksudo then click OK
7. Input your password, click OK the installation will then begin.
8. Press enter to close the terminal and finally reboot the virtual machine.
