difficulties to boot under Xen (Xcp)

Hello everybody,

I'm facing difficulties to get a debian like box booting under xen (xcp exactly). I have to work with LILO...

Here is my lilo.conf :

Quote:
lba32
boot=/dev/xvda
default=tst
install=text
prompt
timeout=50
map=/boot/map
root=/dev/xvda1

image=/boot/vmlinuz-3.2.31-tst
label="tst"
read-only
root=/dev/xvda1

If I try to write the boot sectors, here are my errors :

Quote:
# lilo -M /dev/xvda
Fatal: /dev/xvda is not a master device with primary partition table
# lilo
Fatal: Sorry, don't know how to handle device 0xca00
I don't know how to proceed... Does anybody have an idea ?

The driver used is : "xen-platform-pci"...

thank you in advance !
best regards,
Julien

Hello

I've found the answer. I post it down here if somebody faces the same issue...

The solution :
LILO just doesn't supports the xvda (and also vda) paravirtualized disks... The only solution is to change to another boot loader. I've tried grub2 and grub-legacy which worked well.

A workaround :
I've found a workaround. Boot on a debian cd in rescue mode. The drive will mount in sda, replace your xvda entries in lilo.conf by sda and add "root=/dev/xvda1" in the "append" section.
write your changes :
# lilo -M /dev/sda
# lilo
and reboot on the hard disk.
