Hello guys Need help on below:

I have a dual boot laptop with windows 8.1 and ubuntu 14.04. Want to create a virtual machine of existing windows8.1 and use this VM in Ubuntu/ Virtualbox of the same physical machine. Created VHD file of Windows8.1 using Disk2Vhd, providing by Microsoft.

for this I referred

Created Virtual machine in Ubuntu by using Virtual box.
Copied the VHD file to Ubuntu, and attached this file in newly created Virtual Machine.

But when I am starting VM on VirtualBox it gives following error message and not booting the windows 8

error: unknown file system
entering rescue mode

and giving the prompt
grub rescue>

Here I tried command from this video tip
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1QpN9IWSoc

but after entering the command insmode normal receiving the error unknown file system.

Details of environment doing this exercise:

VirtualBox VM 4.3.10_Ubuntu r93012 linux.amd64
Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS , 64 bit
Windows 8.1 Pro
Disk2vhd V 2.01

Thanks for your time.

You may be better off reinstalling Windows 8 inside the VM. Windows doesn't deal with major hardware changes very well. You may end up spending more time fixing the Windows install, rather than a fresh install inside the VM.

Almost impossible to clone a pre-installed windows 8 to a vm so I'd agree that this exercise is doomed to fail.

Thanks replica9000 & jefro.
I tried with VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client, an open source tool for creating p2v.
Used the file created by this tool in VirtualBox, and it's booting.
but now i am facing the issue of keyboard capturing, it is not happening. but mouse is capturing and working well.

anyway thanks for your time.
