IF you're willing to keep digging, try (ALL) the settings in the photos in #4 link (which I quote from)

Maybe post a photo of where it says "Vanderpool" ... (I wonder what else it needs ...)

But I can empathize with 'giving up' here. Good luck.

p.s. @Other LQ'ers: maybe the 'other missing' setting is the one that addresses the (50x slower) speed ... VB6 "hardware acceleration" issue
(The OP seems to have found like half of what comprises vt-x, I guess... IDK)

The RAM is needed for my music software. some people are running 128GB! Guys doing film scores, for example. I'm just a hobbyist, but even I need that much.

I'll take another look and see if I can find any other things to tweak. But it's not urgent. I do plan eventually to keep this machine offline permanently. Unless I need more software, esp. orchestral libraries. Most of them are downloads these days.

I've tried to do what I do on Linux, but music creation software is heavily specific to Windows and Macs. the software companies just don't bother to make drivers for Linux. Fortunately, since I m just an amateur, I don't need to have up-to-date software. I can make Windows 7 work just fine. The last decent system MSFT made, before they lost their minds. Or got too greedy, or whatever.

Thanks for your help!

Apology for posting another desperate wild guess:

I saw something where Avast anti virus uses (usurps) virtualization for sandbox
And something about Hyper-V taking control...
https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=91023
(in case something in your Win7 is blocking ...)

I checked out the thread above. I appreciate the help. At this point, I'm shelving the idea. I want to make music, not chase down obscure operating system conflicts. I am running Malwarebytes Premium. I will continue with that to the end of the year, when it will be up for renewal. At that point I'll decide whether to keep this machine offline. Even now I have it offline by default, and only go online briefly with it as needed. I'm on my Linux computer now, which is what I'm on 90& of the time when online.

Thanks for all the help everyone, great support as usual! I've already uninstalled VB so no further replies are needed.

Not wanting to give up entirely, I decided to try VMWare. A very different experience. It works fine. for some reason, my system does not like Virtual box, but does like VMWare. I did have to enable virtualization. Still haven't installed the VMWare Tools yet. I need study up on how to do that. I installed LXLE 18, just to see how it went. Everything worked great! so I may be able to do this after all. Once again, I went with a slightly older version (15) to get a better match for my 7 year old machine, but I may try the current version down the road.
