Cannot Ping Guest OS from Host on VMware Workstation 9.0
Hello Friends,
I have a problem in :
1) pinging Host OS -> Guest OS.
2) pinging Guest OS -> Host OS
Both OS are on the same machine.
Here are the details of configurations:
Host OS : Windows XP SP2
Guest OS : RHEL 6.1
Host IP : Not Assigned.
Guest IP (eth 0): Not Assigned.
I really don't have any idea on the Network Adapter (of VMware workstation) configuration, so request you to pls make me understand the Network Adapter types (which one to use in which situation).
Pls guide me step-by-step to resolve the Host->Guest & Guest->Host OS ping issue.
Regards & Thanks in advance !!

- Which is guest OS?
- Are you using DHCP for guest? If yes, then both host as well as guest shold ping each other by IP.
On Windows:
Code:
> ipconfig -all
On host, if it's Unix:
Code:
~$ ifconfig -a
In order to have networking between both, you will need to define some domain or workgroup. Also check this out here and here.
Hi Shivaa,
Thanks for the info. As u have asked, the Guest OS is RHEL 6.0.
But some questions/////////////
1. I don't have any LAN connection. Its a standalone PC.
Will I be, in that case, able to ping Guest OS (RHEL 6) on VMware ?
2. Where to create the workgroup ? On the Host / Guest OS ?
