Bridge with DHCP config for both the host and guest OS
hello all,
I work for a Windows riddle company so to keep the fight going on, I installed Linux on my work laptop then installed kvm and windows 7. this win7 is in the AD domain of the company, it is great, I can use my linux and still use the tools of the company
when I plug the laptop on the network, it gets an IP from the DHCP server, so far so good, then do a NAT for the KVM guest (win7)
this has been functioning very well for the last 3 years.
however, one of the problem I encounter is that I cannot debug the network issues from the Guest win7. a simple ping will not work, a nmap or wireshark will not work, from the guest OS
I suppose the solution is a bridge network so the guest OS will be able to request an IP from the company DHCP.
however, all the doc I found specify that the Host NIC needs to have an IP. this I cannot do as I get the ip via DHCP from the company as well
part of my job is to visit different offices in different countries, so I do not have the possibility to use a static IP. I am in a different subnet few times a day
anyone knows a doc to install a bridge network for KVM or VirtualBox (I can migrate, not a problem) using DHCP for both the host and the guest OS ?
for info, I use LMDE 2 on my laptop, with a dualboot to ArchLinux in case the first one will go dead

I have VBox (Windows 7 host, openSUSE guest) set up with bridged networking. I often have both set up using DHCP, and sometimes with one set up using a static IP for my work as a network engineer. I also frequently have a VPN connection on one while using native connection on the other. No problems with using it like this. It's not hard to configure.
