Running a single unmodified OS on a small cluster or cloud with linux as host
Hi all,
What I want is a (possibly simple) way to run an unmodified OS (Linux, or possibly WinXP) on a small networked group of machines. By small I mean less than 10. The hardware could be everything from a Compaq Desktop running 1.6GHz Intel Atom to a HP Laptop running 2.5 GHz AMD Athlon to an old 800 MHz Intel. The host doesn't matter as long as it's free.
From what I've read, the way to do this would be to run some *nix/Linux on the machines with a virtualization software running on the cluster. However I haven't been able to find specific instructions on how to do this.
I'd also want some indication to what power would be available to the guest system. ie. Taking as an example 5 machines with 2.0 GHz and 2GB ram, the guest system could have up to (virtually) around ?? GHz and ?? ram.
And please don't send me on Googling stuff, I'm doing that right now.
Thanks,
