I have installed Slackware 13 in vmware, the mouse functions but is one inch out downwards, clicking an icon requires pulling the cursor down the screen.
I had a similar issue with an openSuSE guest, in which the video drivers would not display the correct resolution OR the correct monitor dimensions/resolution.
Monitor settings is a starting point to look for solutions.

i'v had MS vitual pc do it on win 98 guest
the best fix atleast on MS vpc to set the res and color depth to its lowest setting then set it up to what you want it at.
