How about a DFW LUG?

Do you live in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metro area? Hey, me too!

Let's get together and maybe learn some stuff from each other about GNU/Linux!

Looks like there is one at UT: https://lug.utdallas.edu/

And this one: http://www.ntlug.org/ but according to its calendar it appears to be defunct.

Looks like you have to be part of a university to join the UT group.

The NTLUG looks to be very dead. Calendar stopped being updated after 2012.
Last article was posted in December 2014.

Maybe the best bet is to checkout if there is a meetup group.

From the web page linked above it seems to me that the UT LUG is alive and well, and that they welcome anyone, not just current students.
