[root@localhost ~]# yum -y install yumex

Are you connected to the internet? That error means that yum can't access any online repos.

Are you using Fedora Core 5? If so then Add/Remove Software is simply a frontend to yum, so if that works then yum should also work fine in the command line.

check your /etc/yum.conf
This below works perfectly.

Quote:

[main]
cachedir=/var/cache/yum
keepcache=0
debuglevel=2
logfile=/var/log/yum.log
pkgpolicy=newest
distroverpkg=redhat-release
tolerant=1
exactarch=1
obsoletes=1
gpgcheck=1
plugins=1
metadata_expire=1800

# PUT YOUR REPOS HERE OR IN separate files named file.repo
# in /etc/yum.repos.d

[atrpms]
name=Fedora Core $releasever - $basearch - ATrpms
baseurl=http://dl.atrpms.net/fc$releasever-$basearch/atrpms/stable
gpgkey=http://ATrpms.net/RPM-GPG-KEY.atrpms
gpgcheck=1

[freshrpms]
name=Fedora Linux $releasever - $basearch - freshrpms
baseurl=http://ayo.freshrpms.net/fedora/linux/$releasever/$basearch/freshrpms
gpgcheck=1
Can you ping those repos?

I know yum works, but I was trying to get the yum GUI to install.

we all know what yumex is.
So copy past my yum.conf over yours and just try again.

If yum works, then whats the problem? Yum should be able to pull yumex from the Fedora Extras repos unless you tinkered with your repos.
