Question Yum Not working

Hi, I'm having some issues with yum. I'm not sure if it's just something I didn't configure right, but I've been trying everything I could.

The problem I'm having is when I do the update even with the default config I had, it just hangs there forever. Eventually it tells me it was unable to get to the header info file, and the url it gives me that failed works when I try it in a browser on a different machine.

# yum check-update
Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
Server: Fedora Core 2 - i386 - Base
Exiting on User Cancel

I had to cancel it, as it was taking too long to even get an error message to post here.

Then here is my yum.conf file below. I tried different urls and it did not work. Even the default conf file did not work. I also tried the $releasever and $basearch in urls, but upon reading that it's only to help maintain the .conf easier, I tried a more direct approach below.

# vi yum.conf
distroverpkg=fedora-release
tolerant=1
exactarch=1
retries=0

[base]
name=Fedora Core $releasever - $basearch - Base
baseurl=mirrors.kernel.org/fedora/core/2/i386/os
distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/fedora/linux/core/2/i386/os
mirror.hiwaay.net/redhat/fedora/linux/core/2/i386/os
rpmfind.net/linux/fedora/core/2/i386/os

[updates-released]
name=Fedora Core $releasever - $basearch - Released Updates
baseurl=mirrors.kernel.org/fedora/core/updates/$releasever/$basearch

#[updates-testing]
#name=Fedora Core $releasever - $basearch - Unreleased Updates
#baseurl=download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/updates/testing/$releasever/$basearch/

#[development]
#name=Fedora Core $releasever - Development Tree

(I had to take out all the urls because I have less than 5 posts)

Nothing seems to work that I try. Although the server I'm in through ssh that I'm doing this on is connected just fine to the internet because I can even ftp to most of these sites without any problems.

Can someone please help me with this problem? I appreciate it very much

Have you tried using any of the Fedora mirror sites? The official sites are notoriously slow using yum (It can take days allegedly to download the header file)

WOW days? Hehe that's qutie a long time.

I've tried quite a few, kernel.org being my favorite for their fast speed. They didn't make much of a difference, and after about 20+ minutes they would give me the error of being unable to reach the header files, even though the files load up in a split second with the exact same url.
