yum install kino - Missing Dependency: libavutil.so

I upgraded an FC3 install with FC4 this week. I had kino running on the previous install.

I've successfully run yum update, but I had to put "--exclude ffmpeg* " in order for the update to complete.

This is what I get when I run
# yum install kino
Setting up Install Process
Setting up repositories
not using ftp, http[s], or file for repos, skipping - gpgcheck=1
Reading repository metadata in from local files
Parsing package install arguments
Resolving Dependencies
--> Populating transaction set with selected packages. Please wait.
---> Package kino.i386 0:0.8.0-1.2.fc4.rf set to be updated
--> Running transaction check
--> Processing Dependency: libavutil.so for package: kino
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Missing Dependency: libavutil.so is needed by package kino

I don't know where to begin to try to resolve this dependency.

Any help resolving this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply. The reason I put the --exclude ffmpeg part on the installation is that without this exclusion, I got an error complaining about libpostproc.so. I'll look into this a bit more.

Any idea why the ffmpeg is not installed by yum automatically because of the dependency?

What do you recommend I try next?

Are you able to install kino successfully? If so, what are repo file are you using?

Thanks in advance for your help.

i have kino installed. I don't use FC though. I think the requirements are:

libavc1394
libdv
mjpegtools
ffmpeg
libgnomeui
libsamplerate
libglade

So I see that you are using the Dag/Dries repo for the "kino" package (the "rf" tag). That package depends on the "ffmpeg" package from Freshrpms. So you should make sure you have the Freshrpms repo enabled and stuff.

I looked into the ffmpeg thing a bit more. I found that the version I currently have installed is from a FC3 install that was last updated in February 2005. So I downloaded the ffmpeg and ffmpeg-libpostproc rpm files...

When I tried to manually update I got this message:
Quote:
rpm -Uvh *.i386.rpm Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
package ffmpeg-0.4.9-0.20041110.3.1.fc3.rf (which is newer than ffmpeg-0.4.9-0.3.20051207.2.fc4) is already installed
I doubt this is an older version.. Could this be the cause of my dependency troubles? What do you recommend? I'm hesitant to do a "force" install. Should I be?

Thanks in advance.
