YPSERV Error!!

I am a newbie and need help.

I am trying to install NIS (Red Hat 9) on a server by following "NIS-HOWTO" documentation. When I tried to start YPSERV (from Service Configuration) screen ( KDE > system settings > Server Settings > Services), I get the error message:

ypserv failed. The error was:

No other explanation. In frustration, I tried to start YPSERV (following instructions in NIS-HOWTO), as follows:

% rpcinfo -u localhost ypserv

and I get the error message:

rpcinfo: RPC: Program not registered
program 100004 is not available

If I understand correctly, somehow the error message says that the YPSERV program is not registered! How, Why? I enter the following:

% rpcinfo -p

and it displays a list of programs but no YPSERV on 100004;

When I installed RH9, I installed everything. PLEASE HELP. I have posted this message on other forums and nobody seem to know what causes this error?

Thanks.

Kirti
